Spinal Decompression at College Park Chiropractic
Are you seeking a noninvasive solution for chronic back or neck pain? Spinal decompression could be the answer you’ve been looking for.
What is Decompression Therapy?
Decompression Therapy is a Non-Surgical Procedure to help reduce or eliminate low back and leg pain. An effective Cervical treatment for neck pain, arm pain, and headaches is also available.
Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical procedure that effectively treats disabling low back, neck, radiating leg & arm pain, and headaches. It also effectively relieves the pain associated with disc herniation, degenerative discs, posterior facet, and other spinal related syndromes, by reducing the pressure on spinal discs and facet joints through unloading created by distraction and positioning.
How Does Decompression Therapy Work?
Decompression Therapy relieves pain, reduces inflammation of the spine, and restores spinal motion all while treating the underlying cause.
Spinal Decompression Therapy creates negative pressures inside the herniated, bulging disc letting it retract naturally, thus relieving disc pressure on spinal nerves which usually relieves the pain. Reducing pressure in the disc also restores the natural transfer of surrounding fluids, nutrients, and oxygen into the disc, a process essential for disc health. Tears in the disc’s wall can now repair themselves while nutrients introduced back into the disc’s nucleus can reverse the disc’s degeneration and its collapse, and restore disc height which relieves pressure on inflamed spinal joints.
What Happens During a Session
Decompression Therapy begins with a series of sessions typically 3-4 times per week. Each session is approximately 8-12 minutes. During each session, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, or therapeutic laser may be applied to help relax muscles and promote further healing of injured tissues. After treatment, your doctor may prescribe specific exercises designed to help you regain proper control and strength of the stabilization muscles which can help create long term benefits.
Decompression Therapy is administered to patients fully clothed either face down or face up on the table. The majority of our patients find treatments to be a comfortable and relaxing experience, many actually even fall asleep during treatments. Clinical studies suggest Decompression Therapy provides a majority of qualified candidates with initial relief within just a few sessions.
How Many Treatments are Necessary?
Research and clinical experience have shown the best results to occur with 20-30 decompression therapy treatments. These treatments are completed at a typical frequency of 3 times per week. Several factors will determine the treatment protocol that will be specifically designed for you. No two spines are the same.
Several other treatment modalities may be employed in order to reduce inflammation, improve range of motion, decrease pain, accelerate healing potential, improve balance, and strengthen supporting structures such as Deep Tissue Laser, Muscle Therapy, Strength and Restoration Therapy, Moist Heat, Stretching and Stability Exercises in addition to Chiropractic Specific Adjustments.
What Are the Benefits?
- Noninvasive Pain Relief: Say goodbye to costly and invasive surgical procedures. Decompression therapy is a convenient, walk-in procedure that may drastically reduce severe chronic pain in just one visit. By avoiding the risks associated with surgery, clients may experience relief on the same day without extended recovery periods. This treatment helps patients avoid the risk of anesthesia, surgical complications, and the potential of failed back surgery.
- Swift Recovery: Unlike traditional spinal surgeries that require weeks of bedrest and rigorous physical therapies, this technique offers a shorter recovery time. This means less disruption to your daily routine and reduced chances of scar tissue development.
- Safe for All Ages: Regardless of age, decompression is a safe and pain-free procedure when performed by a licensed chiropractor. From young adults to seniors, this technique may provide relief to a diverse range of clients. Research to develop this procedure was conducted by prominent physicians, engineers and technicians at major teaching hospitals.
- Natural Healing, No Medication: Embrace the power of natural healing with spinal decompression. This technique provides relief and stimulates the spine’s natural healing process. The benefits are even more significant when combined with Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT). Decompression Therapy effectively enhances the healing process and often renders quick, effective and amazing pain relief that enables most patients to return to a more active lifestyle.
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) & Spinal Decompression Together
At College Park Chiropractic, we integrate advanced techniques to enhance your healing journey. Our utilization of the ML830 Smart Laser and LLLT amplifies the benefits of decompression. LLLT, delivered through laser wavelengths between 820 to 840 nanometers, penetrates deep into soft tissues, reducing inflammation, accelerating healing, and promoting pain reduction.
Spinal Decompression combined with LLLT has gained FDA approval for addressing multiple conditions, including:

Spinal Decompression Therapy is Clinically Proven
There have been several studies performed that demonstrate the effectiveness of Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression. As referenced by Gionis et al., “Results showed that 86% of the 219 patients who completed the therapy reported immediate resolution of symptoms, while 84% remained pain-free 90 days post-treatment.
Physical examination findings showed improvement in 92% of the 219 patients, and remained intact in 89% of these patients 90 days after treatment.” Spinal Decompression Therapy has saved many people from spinal surgery and allowed them to return to their regular active lifestyle.
