4 Essential Stress Management Tips for the Holidays

family sitting together near holiday treeNo one is immune to stress. It affects every one of us at some point in our lives, but the holidays can be an especially trying time for many. Here are a few tips to help you de-stress this holiday season.

  • Make time to exercise. As busy as the days are this time of year, it’s crucial to prioritize your workouts. This can be as simple as a 20-minute walk around the neighborhood. Better yet, add some yoga. The breathing techniques associated with this form of exercise will help you clear your mind.
  • Fuel your body with healthy foods. We know – easier said than done. We’re not suggesting you pass on all the delicious festive foods. Just be mindful of how much you’re consuming. Overindulging will likely make you feel sluggish and more stressed. Try eating a healthy snack before a holiday party to help keep you full.
  • Prioritize sleep. Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night. If the hustle and bustle of the holidays tend to keep you up later than usual, set a bedtime goal now and stick to it this season. Most everyone can manage stress better with a full night’s rest.
  • Take a breather. Spend some time on yourself doing whatever helps you relax. You could read a book, listen to music, get a massage, or just take a walk in the sunshine. This Mind-Body infographic may help you with some ideas on how to relax as well.

By taking care of your body physically and mentally, you can manage your holiday stress and enjoy this wonderful time of year. If you find yourself struggling, reach out for help. If you don’t know where to start, we can help you find the right resource.
